Drawing techniques

COPY FROM OLD MASTERS

In the first step, students learn to use different pencils, copying drawings by old Masters  gradually focussing on the study of lights and darks, and proportions, and mesures.

 DRAWING FROM STILL-LIFES

In this second phase, we begin to work from life simple subjects, like natures mortes with few objects, then make compositions of progressively more complex and larger formats.

The purpose is to acquire a gradually tridimenzional perception of the shape. In this phase, we use other media such as sanguigna and  charcoal on different media so to change mode of work.

STUDY FROM CAST

The Face: we will   study the figure through studies of anatomical details such as the eye, nose, mouth and ears, which are analyzed in their volumetric aspects starting from plaster casts and drawings. Then we study full-face in its different positions, focusing on the study of anatomy, plans and proportions.

The hand and the feet : we also can study the elements of the body such as feet and hands, before study full figure.

LIFE-MODEL

Anatomy courses : every trimester, 3 sessions are dedicated to drawing from life models. At this occasion we study the structure of the human body with  theorical analysis of the anatomical schema.

We work with long poses and short poses that help to coordinate eye and hand, to train the visual memory and perception of the figure in space
